Unit 4

Lidded Box

Plan-

I first took a good amount of wedged clay and rolled out a big fat slab. I then cut the slab into 4 separate even squares. After that I slipped and scored them all together to make the base. I then cut out 2 more slabs 1 for the bottom and one for the lid. I slipped the bottom on trimmed one side of the other slab so it would fit as a lid on the box. Lastly I added a little chunk of clay and carved out an eye

Overall it went fairly well but I would have rather added a hand so it looks cleaner and it's more accessible  but it went pretty well.

Poem Piece

Plan- My original plan was to make a 2d bust with emotions floating around. So I roller out 2 big slabs 1 to make the base and another for the things I was scoring and slipping on.. I cut out a big rectangle as the base then carded a human from my other clay as the bust who had the emotions going on. And the emotions on the clouds we not working as a planned and were either breaking or just didn't turn out well and it all eventually broke and I remade it about 3 times not liking any of them.

Overall I think if I tried it again it with better planning it will turn out a lot better and clean instead of crummy edges all around

Monster/ Next level slab

Plan- The plan was to make an upside down box with no top, it was a floating rectangle. Then i cut out skinny lines to add waves to the left and right side of the monster. After doing those I did multiple balls of differnt sizes right at the top on the left and right sides. then i cut out a u shape to make the beaver- like tail. I then took a chuck of clay and make it like a long head then shaved it out to it had a mouth and wasn't just a blob of clay and it was hollowed out.

Overall it turned out pretty well except for the glaze. If I were to to it again I would pay more attention to the glaze I'm using ti see how they come out when fully fired. other than that it went pretty well.

Handles on a Piece

Plan-
I first made a simple cup the start of as the vessel for my handle. I then took 2 skinny round strings of clay and twisted them together to make a spiral looking handle. The it was just slipping and scoring it on the cup.

Overall I didn't hate the final result. I forgot to take it into account that the clay shrinks when fired and it ended up shrinking so much you could only fit a single finger in the loop. I also would've been more gentle when intertwining the clay so it doesn't look all mushed together and looks presentable

Series of 4

ps there is only ! cup because I haven't been able to give it to my dad and the rest have been given to the recipient already
Plan-
First a made a slab and darted it to make a cup and I did that 4 times not caring about the height but the width. After a did all 4 cups I cut them so they were all evenly tall as the others. Afterwards I did a sloppy glaze job.

Overall it went well but I wish I had taken more time to glaze and get a clean finish
